One of the largest wilderness areas in California, this area is part of the Klamath, Shasta-Trinity, and Six Rivers National Forests. This rugged, isolated area consists of mountain ranges and deep canyons between rivers. Many lakes and streams are found here. The Trinity Alps Wilderness is located in northwestern California west of Redding and east of Eureka. The Trinity Alps includes the head waters of the Trinity and Salmon rivers and is one of the largest parcels of backcountry land in the state growing to just over 515,000 acres. The Trinity Alps mountains include high, rough ridges with peaks ranging from 7,000 to 9,000 feet in elevation, deep glacial canyons, and spectacular mountain meadows.
