These heavily used wilderness areas are part of both the Inyo and the Sequoia National Forests. They make up more than 400,000 acres. The area straddles the Sierra Nevada Crest and is, in part, a large basin surrounded by high, rugged mountains as well as an extension of the Kern Plateau. Much of the area is above 10,000 feet in elevation.
