This book represents the remarkable story of the McCallum family, as well as other early settlers, who, along with the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, shared in the early history of Palm Springs. It reveals an extraordinary era of pioneering in California by lawyer and State Senator John Guthrie McCallum and his family, particularly his daughter, the late Pearl McCallum McManus. Her family brought her to the desert as a child in 1884, and she devoted most of the years of her long life to her father's dream of achieving a beautiful and productive desert community. |
