This is a reprint of the original 1900 edition without the inclusion of a Cahuilla Bibliography and Introductory Essays by Henry W. Lawton, Lowell John Bean and William Bright that was included in the Malki Museum Press publication of 1967.

A dissertation submitted to the faculties of the Graduate Schools of Arts, Literature and Science in Candidacy for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Department of Anthropology) University of Chicago.

This book describes some of the native plant resources known and used by the Coahuilla Indians of southern California. It studies the native culture of one of the Indian tribes inhabiting the arid plains and mountains of the California desert.
